February 2025 sees the 80th Anniversary of the arrival in Birmingham, England, of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, a Black and Latino unit of the US Women's Army Corps. The role of the Six Triple Eight, as its title indicates, was to work with the post, lots of it, for seven million US personnel in Europe. In the three months which the unit spent in the city, it not only sorted and redirected millions of items of post but it also had a profound effect on Birmingham's citizens.
For the anniversary, I'm producing a documentary to remember the Six Triple Eight in my home city. The plan is to have it ready for February.
